Tearooms

Relaxation and sweet treats are on the cards at the tearooms in the various neighbourhoods throughout the town, with homemade cakes and pastries or specialities from the Bigorre region!
These places are perfect for a quiet break in the town centre, before or after visiting our unmissable sites.

Sunday brunch

On Sundays, anything goes!
Either for brunch or lunch, on Sundays it doesn’t matter what time it is, it is the perfect day to come and take a seat near Brauhauban market or at the Place de Verdun, out on the terrace in the sun!

Marcadieu Market

On Thursday mornings, get your best basket ready and head to the beautiful Halle Marcadieu indoor market! When you get there, take your time wandering around the stalls and tasting our local products at one of the biggest farmers’ markets in south-west France.

This Baltard-style indoor market was built in 1883 and is the unmissable, historic place for local farmers and producers to come and sell their products. There’s a great atmosphere here and you’ll see everyone wearing the traditional beret!

Our star products

Take a little bit of our region home with you by filling your basket with our specialities: gâteau à la broche (spit cake), local cheeses, Noir de Bigorre pork, Haricots Tarbais beans, Barèges lamb, Noire d’Astarac-Bigorre chicken, Trébons onions, foie gras and other delicious specialities

The outdoor terraces

Don’t forget that you’re in the south of France! All year round, you can enjoy the pleasures of having lunch in the sun out on the terrace, and you’ll be spoilt for choice!
You might even hear the wonderful local accent if you listen closely to the locals chatting on the table next to you…

Late service

How about a night out?

If you’re feeling festive and peckish, find a restaurant that will serve you later in the evening.

Summer picnic

Or how about a simple picnic in a remarkable garden, a lunchtime ride on a horse-drawn carriage or a refreshing break in a rural setting overlooking the Pyrenees? Tarbes really is a beautiful place to be!

Added bonus

  • The free shuttle service to and from the town centre makes it easy to get around. The buses leave every 20 minutes (from 7:30am to 7:30pm) from Monday to Saturday (except for public holidays).

  • On Thursdays, there’s a special shuttle service to and from Marcadieu market, so you don’t have to think about trying to find a parking space in the town centre, just leave your car at the Parc des Expositions and take the shuttle bus! (leaves every 15 min)

If you’ve still got some time to spare…

Stop by to see us at the Tourist Office. We will tell you about all the great places where you can meet the local producers on their estate and taste their products (Madiran wines, homemade canned goods, etc.)!
